RE:FURN AND THE PATH TO CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS

31 March 2025

Over the past year, Ragnars has worked intensively to refine, deepen, and develop our circular processes and concepts. As part of this work, we are participating in the research project RE:Furn, which is led by Chalmers University of Technology in collaboration with Jönköping School of Engineering, and Linnaeus University.

Circularity is the key to survival for the human race as well as our industry moving forward. That’s why it was a given that we would participate in this project, says Johan Ragnar, Head of Marketing, Sustainability, and Product Development at Ragnars.

Last week, we had the great honour of welcoming the researchers involved in the project to Forserum. Together, we delved into our work on circularity concepts, with a particular focus on sustainable product development and the reuse of our interior elements.

– Within ten years, the market for reused furniture is expected to grow significantly. We are already witnessing an increase, especially in the public sector. For these clients, we already offer several solutions through consultation, such as renovation of existing furniture, and offering products with long lifespans, Johan Ragnar states and continues:

– After the significant effort we’ve invested in this project, gaining approval and recognition from the researchers involved feels especially rewarding. It confirms that we’re moving in the right direction, which is vital for what lies ahead.

For Ragnars, circular work is central—especially the development of products with long lifespans that can be used by multiple users. For this to be possible, the products must remain attractive throughout their entire life cycle. Choosing materials that age beautifully is one way to achieve this.

– In product development, we always need to stay one step ahead. It’s about meeting customer needs in a sustainable way while also ensuring profitability in the process, Johan Ragnar adds.
